The bit nobody plans for
You've done the sums. You know what the pension does, roughly what the years look like, and which month the last payslip lands. That part is handled.
What nobody warns you about is the fourth Tuesday. The washing is done by half nine and the day is just sitting there. And the thing you turn out to miss isn't the work. It's mattering to somebody by Wednesday.
So you say you'd like to do more. Give something back. Then you go looking, and you find a council page last updated years ago, a national charity that wants two years of your life before it will say hello, and somebody suggesting the local charity shop. You close the laptop.
Wanting to help is easy. Finding where is the hard part.
Three ways this goes
Every figure below comes from something real. Two of them are uncomfortable.

Causes that fitted, after hours of looking.
That was Simone after her son's crash in September 2023, across Facebook, friends, online communities and three campaign platforms. What came back was single-hospital appeals and listings for causes that had already stopped. She took no action at all.
Real, named organisations, across 850 listings, covering 16 of the 17 goals.
You'll say where you are and what you care about. You'll get named organisations back, and the ways to act with them. One search instead of an evening.

Why this exists
In September 2023 my son was involved in a serious car crash. The hospital had no beds. He waited two hours for an ambulance and his friend waited three, just after 9pm on a Thursday, close to a hospital.
I wanted to act. I hunted on Facebook, asked friends, put it to the online communities I was part of, then searched 38 Degrees, campaign platforms and JustGiving, looking for something to put my energy behind. What came back was a quagmire of disparate information, and some of the causes weren't even running any more. I did nothing about the thing I'd actually watched happen.
Seventeen days later I abseiled down the ArcelorMittal Orbit for The Hunger Project UK and raised £2,842 in six days. That worked because of the years of contacts and communities I'd already built. Most people haven't got those, and they shouldn't need them.
So I'm building it for them.

What it does, and what it will do
The site is evolving and getting ready for launch. The search works today. The cause finder quiz is the piece that isn't built yet, and when that's live we'll let you know.
What works today
What's coming
Searching costs nothing, and it always will.
Where this actually is
You'll get the honest version on this page or you won't get anything.
Community Interest Company registration is in progress. Built by one person, so far.
Honestly
One thing to do
I haven't launched yet. Leave your name and I'll tell you the day it does, and I won't use your address for anything else.
I'll email you the day it opens, and nothing before that unless there's something genuinely worth telling you. If it slips, I'll say so rather than go quiet.
Thank you for the cause as well. I'll look at it properly before anything goes on the site.
Thank you. Simone
